To Kill a Mockingbird Essay Certainly it is possible for anybody to become a tough and productive adult even if that person had an abusive or neglected childhood. This can be shown in the book To Kill a Mockingbird with Dill and his neglecting parents. This can also be proven to this present day with the celebrity Charlize Theron. Dill in the book is a seven year old boy who left home one day because he felt neglected by his mom. He also keeps on changing stories about his father, and that also can be link to his father not giving him the care that Dill needs either. I'm gonna stand in the middle of the ring and laugh at the folks...” This quote proves how Dill has the potential to become a tough and productive adult because he wants to make people laugh. At first, it just sounds like Dill is saying he simply wants to be a clown when he grows older and nothing else to it. Dill’s motivation to become a clown is what makes this so much deeper. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, there is a court case between a black man named Tom Robinson and two white people. Their names being Bob Ewell and his daughter Mayella Ewell who accused Tom Robinson of rape. Throughout the court case it can be clearly inferred that Tom Robinson is innocent and the Ewells are lying about the rape accusation. Charlize Theron had a very rough childhood when growing up but she rose above it and gained the large fan base she has today. When Theron was growing up in South Africa with her parents, her dad would fall into the bad habit of drinking. Even though Theron states he never physically abused her, Theron’s father was actually often, “a verbal abuser.” (Theron) Being talked down to at such a young age, especially by a parent, can be very traumatizing and hurtful. If that is not any worst, Theron’s father even threaten to shoot her and his wife with a shotgun after drinking one day with his brother. Leading to Theron to witness her mom killing her own father with a handgun. Even after all the abusive and borderline horrifying imagery Theron had to witness at such a long age, she still manages to go the extra mile. It all started when Theron’s mother said,” ‘go make something of your life, go, go do something.’” After she said those encouraging words, Theron grew up to star in a bunch of blockbuster Hollywood movies. Most recent example being a role as the character Ravenna in the movie The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
