During the great depression not many of the people had someone to have a nice conversation with Everyone's main priority was to get money no matter the cause. It would be rare for someone to stick with you during this difficult time for the people that are involved in the Great depression.
The story of Mice and Men written by John steve peck tells the story of a farm where two new men arrive for a job which in the name are George and Lennie. There they meet the people of the ranch as for example candy, Crooks and curley's wife.

Candy is a person who can't seem to have good friend which then makes him lonely in his environment. He spends most of his time with his dog who is his only friend and has had “im ever since he was a pup.They have a great connection together since they have known each other for a really long time. The people of the farm don't like his dog since it smells. Carlson told Candy he would “shoot him right in the back of the head”pg 45 so that his dog wouldn't have to suffer any more.
