If you avoid conflict within yourself to keep peace, you will create a war inside yourself that will affect other people in your life. This is what happen to John Proctor in a book called “The Crucible.” by Arthur Miller. John Proctor chose to not admit to himself that he was unhappy in his life, which lead him to look for happiness somewhere else. As a result of this he caused a tear in his marriage and left his village divided. John Proctor is a tragic hero because he is suffering inside which lead to a conflict between himself and society that turn into a disaster. In the beginning of the story John was a man who seemed to have everything he wanted, but he was missing excitement in his life. So, he went looking for it in a girl named Abigail. The guilt of having an affair with Abigail started to weigh on him, so he wanted to end it. “ Abigail, you’ll put it out of your mind. Little did John know this would lead the problem right to his door step. A man name reverend Hale came to John Proctor house accusing his wife of being associated with the devil. “ Your wife’s name is-mentioned in the court.”- Hale pg 1128. Hale asked John and his wife to say the ten amendments. It pain John to say adultery. “As though a secret arrow had pained his heart”- pg 1130. Later on, reverend Hale found a weapon in Elizabeth possession that early in the day had injured Abigail. Since the weapon was found in her possession she is going to jail. Other good people in town is also going to jail because of the lie that Abigail told. John created a disaster that lead people to their deaths and ruined his life all because he couldn’t face the
