‘’Carpe diem’’. These words can describe the philosophe of the film ‘Dead Poets’ Society’’. A drama film, released in 1989, got the highest global receipts for dramas and was favorable amid critics. The film was set at the most conservative and aristocratic at that time Walton academy in the US in 1959. The script was written by Tom Schulman and it account of his experience at the Montgomery Bell-academy. There is no deviation from the original story except from one scene, which will be discussed later. The central message of the film – inspiration- have been sustained and, in some ways, enhanced by the talents and commitment of the actors.
The story is told by Robin Williams in the role of John Keating – inspiring teacher and one of the main characters. Among others was Robert Sean Leonard as Neil Perry, who depicts the most tragic storyline in the film. Ethan Hawke as Todd Anderson, whose character’s climax of the story was at the last few minutes of the film. Josh Charles as Knox Overstreet, the main extrovert of the film, and Gale Hansen as Charlie Dalton.
The story begins with an opening ceremony at the Walton Academy. We hear how parents and teachers whisper some advice to children and soon ceremony begins. The headmaster reveals some historical facts, students share the fire of the “light of knowledge” and then the headmaster asks to repeat the four pillars of their academy.
