“You look radiant,” he said. “You get more and more beautiful.” (Pg. 2). Ashleigh is the daughter of two totally opposite parents. She lives with her mom and visits her dad Tuesdays and Thursdays. Her mom is always prepared but her dad just seems to go with the flow. Ashleigh’s dad has let her down throughout the years yet always gives compliments such as “You look radiant.” (Pg. 2). It isn't until now that she realizes all the bad things he's done and that he might be playing her when he asks for $200. Her dad seems to give her compliments but he also manages to let her down a lot. Ashleigh’s dad probably just says all those nice things hoping that she will forget about all the bad things he has done and so she will like him. “Ashes-smashes and crashes, trashes and bashes, clashes and mashes.” (Pg. 1). Ashleigh realizes that her nickname “Ashes” rhymes with so many bad things and her dad gave her this nickname, but also that ashes are dark and grey which is not a good thing. Again Ashleigh’s mom is a great influence and, as you can probably tell, Ashleigh’s dad made the nickname. Her mom does not like it because of what it means and her mom knows better than anyone. Her mom has gotten into fights with her dad and has tried to make him realize that it is not a very good name but he claims “It's just a nickname.” (Pg. 1). Ashleigh’s dad is stealing money from her mom but through her. Everyone knows stealing is never a good idea, well everyone except her dad. “You,” Dad said. “I’d be borrowing the money from you.” (Pg. 4). Ashleigh is a child, you really shouldn't borrow money from children or have them help you steal it. It is teaching them bad lessons. Ashleigh’s dad says he will pay her or her mom back but if he needs this much money in the first place then how is he going to be able to get it back to her quickly like he
