In “The Iron King”,by Julie Kagawa, Meghan Chase has a great weakness that causes her to give up important things to save the people she loves and cares about. Meghan goes to Nevernever to find her kidnapped brother Ethan, who was taken by the Iron king. Through this process Meghan meets many new creatures and unfortunately she has to bargain with them in order to find Ethan. Her best friend Puck, from a Midsummer’s Nights Dream, helps her through the faery land but soon finds his arch enemy Ash. Ash is the Winter prince of the Unseelie Court. Meghan needs both of them to help her find Ethan. Meghan knew that the journey would be rough, but what she did not know was how much she had to give up to save Ethan. Meghan has to make a deal with the Winter Prince, Ash, in order to have him help her and Puck get her brother Ethan back home safely. Meghan is the daughter of the Oberon the Summer King, but is also half human which makes her more powerful than any other faery in Nevernever. So when she comes to Nevernever the Winter Queen, Ash’s mother, wants her as a prisoner so their is no more threat to their Court. He tells her “You would do anything to find your brother- put yourself in danger, bargain with the enemy, give up your own freedom- if it meant saving him. You’d likely do the same for your friends, or anyone else you care about. Your personal loyalty is your breaking point, and your enemies will certainly use it against you. That is your weakness, princess. That is the most dangerous aspect in your life” (Kagawa 231). Meghan already made a deal with a cat named Grimalkin, who helped her find Puck when they were separated earlier, so she knew that in this world the creatures did not take deals and bargains lightly. She also knew that this was not the last time she would have to give up
