The term ‘Lost Boys of Sudan’ refers to the about 20,000 boys that were displaced in the Second Sudanese Civil War. A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park is a novel based on the true experiences of some of Sudan’s lost boys. A character in the novel based on these boys, Salva, must leave his village and flee the Second Sudanese Civil War. He tries to find safety from the violence by walking to a camp in Ethiopia, facing many perils along the way. When the Ethiopian government forces the refugees to leave the country, Salva must begin yet another, long difficult journey to Kenya.
In the book, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, Salva learns it is okay to rely on others for help. This essay view’s on how Salva was able to make it through the desert, despite all the difficulties, using motivating words from his uncle. “He had to slow down, and for the first time on the long journey, he had began to lag behind the group.” (Linda Sue Park,53) At this point in the walk through the Akobo Desert Salva was behind the group thirsty, injured, and tired, not sure if he could keep walking.
In Linda Sue Park’s “A Long Walk to Water” , the main character, Salva encounters several challenges. Through his longing, leadership, and tenacity. Salva has lost his parents, sisters, and brothers because of the Sudanese civil war. Salva is a strong, determined, and knowledgeable person. Furthermore, by the end of this essay you’ll be inspired and touched.
The use of children in the Sierra Leone Civil War was widespread, with up to 10,000 children taking part in the conflict and up to eighty percent of RUF forces between the ages of seven and fourteen. Nya has to walk to get water every day. Salva has to leave his home just because of the war. Salva also has to run away to seek shelter and safety almost dying every time.
Have you ever been in a life threatening situation? Well 11 years old Salva has. During the Second Sudanese Civil War, Salva was one of several millions of people in danger. Salva was in school one day when gunfire erupted outside.
Salva had faced many challenges for instance, most the time he was on the line of starvation, and dehydration. He didn’t have food for about a week at one point and almost collapsed to the ground, he had to get honey out of a beehive with vicious bees constantly stinging them. Although he was starving that little glob of honey satisfied him well, because it could keep him going longer, as he enjoyed the honey in his stomach. In A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, the author tells the story of two children. A girl who gets water every day at a pond and walks for hours so her family can live off the water, and a boy who got separated from his family and must go on an torturous journey.
The hardships in A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park are terrible real life experiences in the Southern Sudan area. Salva is an eleven year old boy in this story, he was born and raised in Southern Sudan in Loun Arrick. Salva has multiple siblings including three brothers and three sisters. In this book he faces hardships like a raging war, a lack of water, and not being able to find his food.
Based on what I have read in the story A Long Walk To Water I believe that place would have the most affect on Nya and Salva. Based on the story both Nya and Salva had to go different places to find each other. So place affects Nya and Salve the most. For example,In the book A Long Walk To Water The place that Nya and Salva were both in was at war. During Nya’s Both the Nuer and Dinka tribes were rivals.
Desire is the need for an object, a feeling or a person. One can have a desire for something that is essential for survival, such as water or food, but desire could be used to harm others or oneself. Through A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, Ishmael’s perspective of desire was altered dramatically. These desires were changed from his surroundings or events that were taking place. In the book, Ishmael was easily manipulated by his desires.
Imagine being torn apart from your family, forced to leave your home, and enduring the hardships of living in a refugee camp, these were all defining moments in Salva's journey. Salva’s journey in “A Long Walk to Water” shows incredible strength, determination, and hope despite the challenges he faces whilst he faced loss, embarked on an escape, and found a sense of belonging in a refugee camp. To start, family is a big part of an individual's life, and Salva’s early separation from his family had a big impact on him. Not only was he apart from his loved ones, but Salva had no knowledge of their safety, or even their survival. First, the separation from his family had a great impact on Salva emotionally.
Charles Darwin once said, "Your survival depends on whether you." Essentially, you must put in the work to survive and thrive; otherwise, you will perish. The novel A Long Walk to Water follows a young boy’s journey in Sudan where war had broken out. Separated from his family, Salva had a mission to find them. However, Salva was just a child with no idea on how to survive on his own.
There are many actors that can be put in the place of characters from Long Days Journey. Some of these actors can relate to the characters in the novel. Some are drugs addicts and some are alcoholics. These actors and actresses would be great for roles like Jamie and Mary. Actors and actresses such as Christian Campbell, Daniel Radcliffe, and Marilyn Monroe would be great to play the characters in Long Days Journey.
In the book, “A Long Walk to Water,” by Linda Sue Park, the thing that affects the characters the most is their culture. In this book, Nya has to walk to the pond and back every day to get water for her family. Eventually, her village has a well dug by people from another tribe, the project being led by Salva. First, the way people are raised by their parents heavily affects who they are in the future. “Salva had three brothers and two sisters.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
