Friar Laurence exhibits unwatchful and lazy character flaws. Romeo states, “Dateless bargain to engrossing death! Come, bitter conduct; come, unsavory guide! Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on the dashing rocks thy seasick weary bark! Here's to my love!” (Act V, sc. iii). In this quote, Romeo commits suicide, which could be prevented if Friar did not assume Romeo received the letter and had given him personally. Hence the Friar should have communicated with Romeo so there wouldn't be any misunderstanding, can be deterred. The Friar also states, “Thy husband in thy bosom there lies dead; And Paris too. Come, I’ll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of holy nuns. Stay not to question for the watch is coming. Come, go, good Juliet I dare not stay longer” (Act, sc.iii). Friar leaves Juliet alone in the monument, and if he should have stayed with Juliet, he can talk her out of committing suicide.
