Hamadi “Remembrance is a form of meeting.” In Hamadi by Naomi Shihab Nye, Susan is inspired by Hamadi in the way he behaves. It is not the similarities that make Hamadi, special but the differences between Susan and Hamadi. There are people that mean so much to us, but we are not related to them. Hamadi is like a grandmother to Susan, even though they are not related. Hamadi believes life is best if it is lived simple, and you should inspire people to do things they never thought of. Susan, who gets inspired by the things Hamadi does, she has drama going on in her school life. One of Susan’s friend Tracy, who hates Debbie for liking Eddie. Susan is different from Tracy because she does not want a boyfriend, she sees boys as her cousins or even brothers. Susan thought people with boyfriends or girlfriends just seemed to have a lot of problems. Tracy believes a person must endure unhappiness to get beyond it. When she meets Hamadi she wants him to share his childhood stories with her so he does not forget them. Hamadi always gave small pieces of advice, which Susan liked. One of the things that Hamadi strongly believes that is when you remember someone or something you are meeting them. When Susan was going Christmas caroling with the English club, she asked her father if Hamadi could go. Susan’s father found it pointless to have Hamadi going Christmas caroling because he would not know any of the songs since Hamadi spoke a different language. When Christmas caroling is done Tracy starts to cry, but Hamadi provides Tracy with helpful
