John Proctor is not a tragic hero in the beginning of the story because he was a bad person with his wife by lying to her about Abigail. But towards the end of the book he realizes the mistakes he has done and he wants to make a change about it. Wants to start to stop lying to himself and to others, then if it will not end well. John Proctor does not qualify as a tragic hero because he was breaking laws by having a affair with Abigail Williams behind his wife backs and when his wife Elizabeth confronts him about Abigail and him about having an affair John kies in front of her face. It goes throughout the whole story.
What the Audience learns from John Proctor throughout the Crucible is that John Proctor was a flawed character and the beginning of the play, but coming into conclusion of the play he regains himself because he chooses to act as a tragic hero by seeking justice for his wife, friends, and
John Proctor, the protagonist of The Crucible, qualifies as a tragic hero because he has a tragic flaw, is ethically superior to the other characters in the play, and struggles to find peace with himself in midst of the lies and chaos during this play. John Proctor possesses a tragic flaw that forces him to hide his prideful mistake, which eventually brings about his downfall. I guess the old saying is true, “Pride comes before the fall”. John Proctor’s tragic flaw is his excessive pride, and he expresses it abundantly throughout the play. In Act I, it states, “ Proctor: Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time.
In my opinion John Proctor is the protagonist of the crucible, because there are some reasons. One reason for me is that John Proctor is starting the Salem witch trials indirectly. It is Abigail who starts the trials, but she only does it to kill John’s wife to be the only one John love and they finally can get married. Because of that the relationship between John, his wife and Abigail is in the foreground. Another reason why John is very important in the Crucible is that he has a strong voice in the community.
John Proctor was a man of honor and had a well respected name in the town of Salem. Sadly he died tragically but as a hero. He was hanged because he was accused of doing the devil’s work. He was given the chance to save his life if he admitted on a piece of paper that he was working with the devil but he refused to tell that lie. He wanted his sons to be able to walk the streets without being shunned from the world because they deserved better.
In Salem, John Proctor is a highly respected farmer. In this time, owning a lot of land meant that a person was wealthy. Proctor’s land was a big part of not only his land but also his identity. He took much pride in his land.
He cared greatly about his family and wife even though Elizabeth was often distant towards him. In the end of the play, Proctor chooses to die rather than sign his confession, ratting out his friends and ruining his good name in the town. He did this to protect the reputation of his children so they won’t have to grow up with a lying father. Lying went against Protctors’ views and that ideal is prevalent throughout the entire play. It is revealed that as soon as he had an affair with Abigail, he confessed to Elizabeth the next day because of the guilt he was carrying around.
The Crucible written by Arthur Miller is a story riddled with Deception, greed, betrayal and manipulation, but it is the actions of main protagonist John Proctor that draws the most attention. The character of Proctor is one of integrity, anger and fallibility which leads to many readers being able to relate to John Proctor the most. Proctor sees the many faults in Salem and acts as the voice for those being wrongly accused of Witchcraft. Proctor is strong willed, honest and determined, which has given him a well respected reputation throughout the town. But there is one fatal flaw, his past relations with Abigail Williams.
John Proctor's main flaw was his excessive pride which sealed his fate. I myself felt his death transformed Salem’s ways of thinking and increased their own knowledge. Proctor's life completely started going downhill when Abigail accused John’s loved ones who then were sent to jail, or executed. John Proctor was a man of goodness and pride which cleansed his soul after he suffered a tragic death, and became a symbol of purity and greatness for others to

Arthur Miller writes “The Crucible” to portray the Salem witch trials of 1692. The people of Salem have grievances in which they need a scapegoat.
Proctor is widely respected in the Salem community. However, he has a secret that threatens his reputation. He cheated on his wife Elizebeth Proctor with Abigail Williams. As a result, he has a strong internal conflict regarding his integrity. Proctor is a benevolent man at heart, however he has sinned according to puritan law.
John Proctor assumes the main part in The Crucible by Arthur Miller. He was determined, genuine, and brimming with respectability. He was essentially, a man with pride. An insightful lady once said, "Do what you feel in your heart to be correct -for you'll be reprimanded at any rate. You'll be condemned on the off chance that you do, and doomed on the off chance that you don't."
JOHN PROCTOR: TRAGIC HERO Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is a greatly revered work, and it reflected the times of America in the days of McCarthyism. Perhaps the character that connected to the audience most was John Proctor, the protagonist of the play. He reflects the mistakes that we have made in our lives, and the struggle that some of have while trying to take the blindfold off of other people. He should be considered a hero because he feels guilt, and therefore tries to make up for the fact that he once had an affair.
John Proctor is a good man despite anything others may say about him. He displays three very noble qualities throughout the witch trials which are bravery, honesty, and an overall goal to save lives even to the point where he sacrificed his. While many argue John is a bad man because he committed adultery they are entirely mistaken. Just because he had one bad sin gives no right to anybody to call him a bad person when clearly the good side of him is shown more than the bad. John Proctor is a good man who displays the characteristics of a hero and could be seen as one for giving his life for his friends.
Many families bicker with each other, and there is a lot of strife in one’s experience from being a part of a family. But it is less common to have a conflict that keeps members from commutating and leaves them bitter. “Sonny’s Blues” by James Baldwin and “I Stand Here Ironing” by Tillie Oslen are short stories that depict the difficulty a family can face trying to survive below the poverty line. The circumstances that causes their struggle varies and the manner in which they pursue resolution varies as well. The dynamics of family for both short stories are very similar in that both narrators have conflict with the character for which they are responsible and care for.
