Ayn Rand is famous for making unique characters, such as Francisco d’Anconia, a character in the book Atlas Shrugged. Francisco is first introduced as a playboy, who throughout the story he seems to be making decisions carelessly, many constantly question his state of mind. However as the character starts to develop more, everything he has been working for, is for a bigger cause- “Who’s John Galt”. There was a particular part in the book were Francisco’s character truly starts to unravel. At Jim’s wedding after someone makes a remark about how money is the root of all evil, hinting that d’Anconia is that evil. Which in turn, he responds with a speech about his thoughts about money and the philosophy behind it. For Example, money is a tool of exchange, made only possible by the people who produce it. Production is only achievable by labor. Therefore a man’s mind is responsible for all the wealth and all of the products produced. He questions the real evil since money is only a symbol of value, a simple tool. He continues with this theme until says “to make money holds the essence of human morality”. The book is never ending with philosophical views, however, this view represents not only the character, furthermore, it's a genuine perspective of today’s current world. In Francisco's speech, he talks about “the proudest distinction of Americans” is the people who created the phrase “to make money” because they were the first to understand that wealth is created. To making money doesn’t mean that you are waiting to receive wealth through a favor, fortune, loot, or thief, but through self-perseverance, because all wealth had a beginning. The Affluent class works hard to keep earning due to the fact that money is not everlasting.
