Throughout "To Kill a Mockingbird", Miss Maudie influence Scout to respect people, as well as, being upstanding, and bold. To be convinced by my claim, the first thing a reader needs to know is that there are at least two other characters that influence Scout. The two other characters that influence Scout are known as Calpurnia and Atticus. Calpurnia is their cook and Atticus is Scout’s father. Scout learns what it means to be respectful Lady from Miss Maudie. Miss Maudie’s definition of a respectful is knowing the story before judging someone, and not speaking in an ill manner towards them. On page 106, Miss Maudie states, ‘Wouldn’t you stay in the house if you didn’t want to come out?’ Scout tries to understand why Miss Maudie stands up for Arthur when she doesn’t really know him.
