Charles Dickens was one of the greatest authors in British Literature and one of the greatest authors of all time. Dickens wrote about concepts that concerned and affected people in his life. He wrote about the truth and experiences in his life that later turned into some of the great novels that are loved by people today. This paper will take an in depth look at how life would be different if Charles Dickens never lived; by first looking at his childhood and early life struggles, followed by his writings such as A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, and finally how he left an everlasting impression on society. To begin, Charles Dickens was born on February 7th, 1812 in Portsmouth, England. He was the second of eight children, making it hard for his family to provide for. His family was very poor and had very harsh finance problems so Dickens and his family were always moving from town to town because of the lack of financial stability. In 1824, when Charles was 12 years old his father was sent to prison for failing to pay his debt; forcing Dickens to leave school to go to work and provide for his family. The sad thing about being welcomed home, was his mother not embracing his presence, which made Dickens view on women different. A few years later in 1827 when Dickens was 15 years old, he was forced again to drop out of school and go back to work as an office boy. A year into his job as an office boy he decided to leave and become a freelance reporter in London, which he was very skilled.
