The enslavement of African American’s has many negative impacts on the United States’ legal system in many ways. One of the ways slavery have impacted the United States’ legal is Caucasian people had developed theories to claim that the Caucasians were inferior to African Americans. Some of the Caucasian people that contributed to coming up with theories or ideas that Caucasians was superior to African Americans are Thomas Jefferson, Charles White, Oliver Goldsmith and Benjamin Rush. (2013) “Other writers, such as the well-known British surgeon Charles White, argued that blacks and whites were anatomically distinct and did not belong to the same species,” (page 199). In 1799 Charles White made illustrations of the anatomical features of animals and humans. The illustration he made has shown the facial features of humans and primates, (page 202). The purpose of Charles White’s Illustration was to claim the Caucasians were more distinct from animals than other races.
