The movie Rain Man starts out with a man named Charlie Babbitt who has just found out that his distant father passed away and left 3 million dollars in a will. Charlie learns that all he got was a old and used car and rose bushes. He Is furious that he was not willed any money. Charlie travels to Wallbrook to speak with one of his dad's friends about the money and finds out that he has a brother with all of the money willed to him. Charlie takes his brother on a seven day journey to try to find someway to get his half of the money that he thinks he deserves. The Movie Rain Man depicts a number of psychological principles throughout the move such as savant syndrome, displacement (defense mechanism), and the frustration-aggression principle.

The limitations cause distress and frustration which later turns into aggression to cope with the problem. I believe that Charlie illustrates the Frustration aggression principle perfectly because Charlie is trying to reach a goal, which is the 1.5 million dollars that he deserves. Charlie also has a limitation (Raymond) taking away his opportunity to reach his goal. This in turn leads to constant frustration and eventually anger. According to an article, a person can be easily frustrated and more prone to anger if they are closer to reaching their goal and when they are eventually limited from reaching their goal (Beck, 2005). In an experiment, scientists placed toys in front of a baby guarded by wire. After a period of time the baby was allowed to play with toys and showed violent and destructive behavior (Straker, 2011).
