Have you ever meet someone who has a mental disability? In the story Flowers for Algernon Charlie Gordon is a 32-year-old developmentally disabled man who has the opportunity to undergo a surgical procedure that will dramatically increase his mental capabilities. This procedure had already been performed on a laboratory mouse, Algernon, with good results. Charlie will be the first human subject.In a series of progress reports, Charlie documents everything that happens to him. As Charlie's intelligence increases to a higher level, the story told me about the changes from Charlie's view point, but also sees the change in Charlie's writing. This jump in intelligence is not really a good thing, however. Finally, because of his increased intelligence, Charlie is able to discover the experiment's fatal flaw the end/ death of him, and the mouse thing.While reading this story I have a personally connection with Charlie because like charlie my grandma has a mental disability so I could kind of relate to charlie.Having a mental disability can sometimes make you unable to notice when people are being mean to you like me personally have seen people take advantage of my grandma so I can see why charlie feels the way he does when you realize people were being mean to him.
