Have you ever been on a cruise ship? Did you wake up early without your parents to go eat? Well, what if you had the whole boat to yourself? In Avi’s True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, the Seahawk could have been very dangerous for Charlotte to go on by herself. For example, the ship could have been taken over by pirates or Charlotte could have gotten sick during the voyage. Even worse, the ship could have crashed into something and sank into the ocean. These examples show that Charlotte Doyle’s parents should not have let her go on the ship by herself. In the novel, Charlotte’s parents let her go onto the ship even though the ship could have crashed and sank into the ocean. As Avi writes on page 26, “Nausea choked me.” If Charlotte had gotten very sick and there was no doctor, she could have died. If she did not feel better, the whole trip would have been ruined for her because she would have been very miserable. Getting sick is bad, but getting sick while alone on a boat is even worse.
Ahh!! The ship is under attack!The third reason of why the ship could have been dangerous it that the ship could have been taken over by pirates. “You’re a girl, a pretty girl (Avi 109).” If the pirates knew that there was a rich girl on the ship, they could have robbed her. After that, the pirates could have enslaved the rest of the crew members. Whew! That was a close one. Why don’t we sum this up?
Hopefully, this paper showed you that the Seahawk on Avi’s The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle could have been too dangerous for Charlotte to be on all by herself.
