Throughout our lives, we have all grown up and interacted with many different types of people with some that we even lay our trust in, whether that be our friends,family,or loved one. We trust these people due to how they've acted around us and we make the decision that they have earned our trust. Without trust being earned we will often be betrayed by people we cared about and left our trust in. The book Charming As A Verb By Ben Philippe expands on the idea that trust has to be earned through the use of character,situational,and symbolic archetypes, Philippe is able to make this idea of trust blossom by establishing a relationship with two of the main characters and already introducing the main character “Henri” as someone who is untrustworthy …show more content…

This archetype aligns perfectly with the initial theme of trust due to how Henri is seen as untrustworthy by almost everyone he interacts with including himself due to his jestful actions. For example, whenever Evie confronts Henri about him hanging out with Corinne so much, Henri responds with “She's helping me with college. Her Mom is a dean at Columbia” (Philippe 120). However immediately after Henri begins doubting himself by saying “That's not why I'm hanging out with Corrine . . . Is it?. Corinne is funny. As established early on in the book it's revealed that Corinne's mom is a dean in Columbia which is the main reason why Henry began to hang out with Corrine but as the story progresses Henri begins to hangout with Corrine because he genuinely likes her but ends up falling short to temptation and the ignorance of his actions by hijacking Corrines moms computer and writing a fake letter of recommendation for himself to Columbia. This obviously hurts Corrine very much since she was betrayed by someone that she trusted and someone that she loves and says “That was my mom just now. She's still at work dealing with … Henri is it true?” (Philippe 264). In that sentence alone you can understand all of Corinne's emotions at the same time and you can feel the sadness that she just had to bear. This all happened due to how Henri fell into despair because of his fear of getting rejected into
