Pattyn Von Stratten is one of several daughters raised in a Mormon home by their abusive drunk father and distant mother. Being the oldest, Pattyn holds the role of being the primary care giver since her mother fails to do so. As a teenage girl, she is faced with many challenges, especially since her Mormon community has something to say about every move she makes. Throughout Burned, Ellen Hopkins was able to show a teenage girl’s thought process on abuse, faith, and the ability to love.
Billie Jo struggle with a lot of things but her biggest struggle is getting away from the dust. Billie Jo friend Livie Killian is leaving Oklahoma and going to California. Billie Jo says, “And I’m wondering what kind of friend I am, wanting my feet on that road to another place, instead of Livie’s” (9). Billie Jo is feeling guilty because she wishes it was her leaving instead of Livie. Billie Jo, runs away and gets on a train to leave the dust of Oklahoma behind.
1. Cass Mastern’s story, though at first seemingly unnecessary and random, shares many elements and themes with Jack’s life. The story of Jack Burden and Cass Mastern are alike in that they involve the cycle of betrayal, guilt, and the burden of responsibility. Cass Mastern commits the ultimate betrayal- he sleeps with his best friend’s wife. Duncan Trice, who was “passionately and single-mindedly devoted to his wife”, commits suicide upon finding out of the affair with a “lead slug nearly the size of a man’s thumb in his chest” (Warren 4.237-243).
In the book “Across Five Aprils” by Irene Hunt, the author makes a few statements to portray her feelings toward the war, she uses the characters and their actions to show her emotions and thoughts about it. The views on war change throughout the book, in the beginning Tom and Jethro think war is going to be so cool, but as time went on their thoughts change. I believe one of her views from the book shows that she is passionate towards war, she uses Tom to demonstrate this. Tom is a soldier, and he is very passionate about what he does for the Union.
Some people believe that characteristics of a person never change and that a person acts a certain way for their whole life but really it's the experiences they go through in their life that changes them whether it be good or bad. This is true in life and in literature in Ally Condie Matched where the main character Cassia’s characteristics and the way she acts change almost completely because of the things she's overcome and been through. She overcomes many things in this book and at the Engels results is her changing he overcomes harsh and overpowering rules that at first she followed obediently but she comes to realize the rules are more than what they seem and they're stopping her from the one thing she wants which is love. cassia, in the beginning, may have started out as an obedient pupil p her society but by the end, cassia turns into a brave courageous character that knows what she wants

In the book “The Other Wes Moore”, the Other Wes was headed down a path of drugs and getting in trouble with the cops. In the book Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, there are three other adjectives that can be used to describe Louie Zamperini, the main character. These adjectives are determined, compassionate, and defiant. These attributes can be proven through not only Louie’s actions, but his thoughts as well. These are the three different characteristics of Louie.
When looking at her school work and from the information that was previously gathered from sessions with Hailey, it was important to assess her as an oral reader, silent reader, writer, word solver, problem solver, and her comprehension. Using a variety of assessments and taking the new information and planning to help Hailey be more successful was important. Also, looking at how Hailey performs across academic areas was another clue to help her be a better student. To have a better picture of Hailey, she brought her academic folders with her to review some of her class work and writing responses, almost like a work portfolio. In the novel, The Chrysalids, by John Wyndham, Michael, one of the central characters, demonstrates character traits of a hero and leadership qualities. He is considered a blasphemy in his community because he is telepathic; however, no one knows of his telepathy, except his telepathic group, since on the outside, he looks completely normal. Michael is originally from Waknuk, a religious community where people strictly believe in the true image of God, and later goes to a different school in Kentak. As the novel progresses, he becomes a hero to his community, friends, and to the people who matter to him. He is willing to risk his life that made it possible for him to rescue and guide his friends escaping from the persecution in Waknuk.

In “The Cask of Amontillado” there are two characters who show strong character traits. Each character has his own way of showing these traits. Montresor shows his through how he deals with Fortunato’s insults. Fortunato shows his through how easily Montresor manipulates him. Throughout the story Montresor and Fortunato show that they are both very clever, but one of them becomes far more clever than the other.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
