Ever since 1921, Child beauty pageants have been taking the world by storm. It has over 500,000 pageants worldwide each year from Canada to the USA and even Tibet, it bringing in over 20 billion dollars a year and over 250,000 participates each year, this interesting event will continue for a long time. Regardless of the comments both negative and positive, recently it has been the buzz from Honey Boo Boo to Toddlers and Tiaras. If someone is an active participant in this event they will have to go around the world, beauty pageants are never constantly at the same place, there is a variety of places where beauty pageants are held, by traveling the contestants will have a chance to represent their pageant they are in and also to get a chance in getting new connections. But, there is always a price to pay when it comes to beauty pageants and it doesn’t come cheap. According to Dorothy Poteat, director of Southern Elite Pageants based in Chapel Hill the lowest minimum for Glitz pageant is $400 - 500, midrange is $1500 and other parents spend as much as $3,500 for their child. There is a variety when it comes to the entry fee from $50 to $500, depending on the level of the pageant. Pageant even charges for competing in separate categories, such as talent and casual wear, each category you participate in is an additional $20 to $30. Each time someone participates in a beauty pageant, depending on their age they will be asked questions and the judges look for accuracy and confidence in their answer, also when someone does beauty pageants, they need to show their outfit in front of the group of people, it’s a catwalk. Depending on how many beauty pageants they perform in will mean the more practice they will receive. This would helpful if in the future they want to pursue a career in music, broadcasting, and other jobs that require them to speak to groups of people with confidence. But the downside is that children who participate in pageants can experience the same negative results as an adult in pageants when it comes to losing but they would handle it differently because children aren’t mature enough like adults. They may take the defeat much harder and experience loss of self-confidence. They may pageants with a negative outlook about the whole experience. 9 out of 10 girls in pageants ages 14-16 admitted to having the want of committing suicide and/or even depression.
