There are approximately 160 million victims of child labour worldwide. Child labour is when a child, is deprived of their infancy. They are forced to work and aren’t allowed to go to school. Child labour is an example of an international issue that affects many people around the world. This has also brought many people in the global community together. To help child labour, the global community has developed laws that would put a stop to child labour, raised money to help those in extreme poverty, and given money to schools in developing countries. Firstly, Canada has done many things politically to help end child labour. Canada has joined organizations formed with other countries that prevent child labour. Examples of organizations Canada has joined are the WVC (World Vision Canada), UN (United Nations) and ILO (International Labour Organization). The ILO promotes social injustice and human and labour rights, this includes child labour. They help by developing laws that stop child labour. A law enforced by the ILO is the Minimum Age Convention. This law stops child labour to a degree (they can still work depending on their age and work conditions). Canada has also urged their trade partners to uphold eliminating child labour from their work fields. All of Canada’s trading partners must follow these commitments.
