By continuing to drink and lose his temper Juan has placed himself into a difficult predicament where he is now dealing with the child welfare system. The child welfare system became involved because of the risk that Juan not only places onto the children and his wife, Maria, but also on himself due to his excessive drinking and anger. In addition to his anger and alcoholism, it was mentioned in the case study “the local child welfare authorities have become involved when it appeared that the children were not being properly supervised”. It is also important to note that because Juan has questioned the paternity of his youngest daughter Maybelle, he may feel resentment towards her, which places her in more danger than the other children. It is important for Juan to work on his drinking and anger if he wishes to continue having a relationship with his children. Without a change it is possible that the children will continue to grow up without a father, affecting not only their future relationships but also the financial stability of the family as a whole. Because there has been a reported case of improper supervision, the children are now at risk of being harmed either physically, emotionally or simply because of a lack of a guardian while in his supposed care. Secondly, because Juan has been drinking while watching these children, he is not in sound mind to make proper, well thought out decisions. This may cause Maybell, his youngest daughter, to be specifically mistreated and potentially harmed because of the anger that Juan feels towards her mother, Maria. Finally, because the children are being exposed to this dangerous behaviour, they are more likely to grow up being not only emotionally unstable, but also be more likely to develop alcoholism as a way of copping with the stress and trauma from their childhood. By child welfare being involved, the organization is working towards eliminating the risk of poverty, emotional abuse and physical abuse as well as giving the family the tools and support that they need to better establish a good foundation and allow themselves grow and flourish as human beings. The child welfare system will first and foremost focus on the children, and then work towards incorporating the family back in the picture. If Juan’s behaviour however does not improve, he will
