To watch something is to see it but when you see something with the thought of meaning, your eyes are really open. This observation is based on a visual fifteen minute observation of a preschool age male child. The content of this project will bring meaning related to the description, interpretation, and personal reflection of the fifteen minute observation.
Description
The project was focused on the observation of a preschool male child. His general appearance was dressed with a long sleeve checkered shirt, gray shirt underneath, tan khakis, and bright greenish tennis shoes. Sitting in one place was a struggle for the child during circle time it looked like his body wanted to keep moving with lots of energy. Some of the things the teachers discussed during this time included; jobs in the classroom, every day activities, and the October lessons that correspond with the month themes. During snack time the children were very polite when getting a drink and snack. Before they would eat the class sang a few songs to give thanks for their food. Each teacher, would also point out one thing they noticed when cleaning up that was good. The male child used well spoken, short sentences, mostly directing his attention towards the adults. He easily used words to communicate what he did and if he needed something. Most of his facial expressions were happy, shy, and he showed excited interest when he heard about the different classroom jobs. Since young children can only sit for short periods of time, they need to be able to move around in the classroom. Allowing children free time allows children to play in many different centers of a classroom. This helps children develop communication and social skills. During the observation, the child was exposed to several areas of play and learning which was very important toward his development socially, emotionally and physically.
