Reflection – Children Are Wired For Empathy And Insisting On Apologies Is Not Necessary Stop – As a person the values we uphold and pass onto our own children and to an extent other children in our lives are driven and come from the culture we gown up in and belong to. These values are often passed on or instilled in us by our own parents, extend family, and important influential adults in our lives. One of the common values or social rules/norms in many cultures is to apologise when we have done something wrong or wronged someone else, but should we make young children apologise? I know as a young child my mother, father, extended family, and other influential people in my life (like teachers) expected me to apologise if I had done something
