Choice, as defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary, means the opportunity or power to make a decision. Chapters two through five demonstrate a few of the many choices Equality has to make in the book Anthem. Numerous choices lead Equality to different consequences but there were three that really affected him.

Equality’s first choice is influenced by Liberty 5-3000. A stunning beauty whose “hair was golden as the sun” (pg. 24). In this scenario, Equality chooses to defy the law and give Liberty 5-3000 a name. “The Golden One” is the name he gives her and Liberty does so vice versa. She gives him the name “The Unconquered”. By doing this - giving each other a name - they discover the feeling of love unknowingly.
