How would you feel if you woke up to a world where you had been forced to live a life that you didn’t choose. In the book “Anthem” by Ayn Rand, There was a man named Equality , and since birth he had been forced to live in a dystopian society with limited freedom and rights. Ever since The Great Rebirth Anthem society has changed drastically. The citizens of their society have lost most of their freedom, are taught not to love, in fact it is considered a sin to make eye contact or to love a woman. Citizens have no knowledge of what technology is because they have a dystopian society ruled by the government with very strict rulings. What this means is that they cannot love each other at all because it is considered transgression, or a sin. The only citizens way could have children is when the Council of Eugenics places men, and women in an area called “ The City Palace of Mating” because that is where men, and women would mate (41). Also to add on to their strictness citizens cannot choose their own jobs. Their jobs are chosen for them by the Council of Elders. even if they were to be good or bad at the job they must work at the assigned job. Equality got the street sweeper job assigned to him because he stood out, and he got a job that was very low because the Council of Elders didn’t like that he was smarter (25-26). In the Anthem society citizens do not know who their parents are and they cannot see them because they'll be placed in the Home of Infants where they will be raised, and taught the rules of the society. Lastly, citizens in the Anthem society who were to sin, and say the word “I” are to be executed for breaking the rules of the society. Has greatly improved because of the use of technology. This country is a democratic society which lets the people choose what they would like to do, and not the government. The U.S. Citizens use technology to help aid them in the right direction and to help aid the future in the right direction as well. An example of this is Thomas Edison, he created the light bulb and this invention has indeed helped the lives of many citizens in this country. Another form of technology are buses and trains, because those are some of the most important inventions ever made. The country has greatly progressed because of these improvements. Citizens no longer need to walk around anywhere they could easily take a bus or train to where they need to go. Secondly, citizens from this country are born to a mother, and father who will eventually raise the child. Children live with their parents until they are of age to move out and get their own job and their own house. Citizens in the U.S. are supposed to grow up smart because the government wants people to stand out. The smartest people are the ones that stand out because they are the ones that actually make changes to this world that will help it. Citizens in this country have the freedom of speech, and that basically is that they can say whatever they like because it is one of the countries amendments which each citizen must follow.
