Choir Fest was an original, fun, and inclusive opportunity that gave incoming Freshman interested in choir a chance to showcase their skills, and learn from current choir participants what the fine arts program at Barrington High school has to offer. The choir that I am proudly a part of is Select Women’s Ensemble, which is an audition-based, all girls choir. This concert was conducted by Brandon Pemberton, and accordingly, took place on March 9th, 2018, in the Barrington High school Auditorium, where the majority of fine arts performances take place. In my opinion, the performance came off as slightly messy, and unorganized. While I thought the vocals were strong, the transitions and movements had room for improvement. Although it is subjectively true that strong vocals definitely overpower appearance, I believe that with a clean, sharp appearance, the performance could have been improved. One concept that I found to be prevalent throughout the performance was musicianship. This can be seen primarily in “Witches Chorus”. They showcased movement alongside vocal performance by keeping the rhythm, pitch, and blend intact all while dancing, therefore showing a variance of skill, while also giving the audience a change in the tempo of the …show more content…
While it was quite clear to me that the quality of the performances were outstanding, there were certain aspects to the concept that were not met as well as they had the potential to. The transitions came off as a bit unprofessional. This was surprising to see, because usually, our choir does a nice job with transitions. Although, due to the lack of students (guilty), and the unfamiliarity of the 8th graders with our auditorium, our usual smooth transitions didn’t go as planned.
