When it comes to male artists, Garth Brooks was by far one of the most influential artists. Brooks story is an inspirational story of how an artist can blend rock and country into a whole new style. The world of country music embraced Brooks style known as New Country. The new style was more aggressive with increased emphasis on drums and bass, and more infused gospel and R&B. When it comes to other country artist, Brooks is not completion, becoming the best-selling solo artist in history. The name Garth Brooks became one of the most popular names in county music “as he represented a new breed of straight-talking country music heroes, defending homosexuals in song ("We Shall Be Free," from 1992's The Chase) and talking to Barbara Walters on
One of the most classic staples in film history, Singin’ in the Rain, influenced the way the film industry made movies forever. Singin’ in the Rain was a musical-comedy produced by Arthur Freed. It was released in 1952, but based in the late 1920’s, depicting the transition from silent films to “talkies.” Don Lockwood, played by Gene Kelly, was an already successful actor in the silent film era. Kathy Selden, played by Debbie Reynolds, was an aspiring actress who fell in love with Lockwood.

An important aspect of both music and communication is making your thoughts relatable. Making something relatable will allow your audience to connect and care about it more knowing that they have felt similar things. Everyone has regrets and think about the past, lost loves, and reminisce about the good ole days of our past. Nostalgia is a powerful tool utilized by artist typically to provide listeners with memories and allow them to empathize with the work. This song makes me reflect on a time where I once made a mistake with someone I was romantically interested.
In 1964 world famous Motown singer Sam Cooke released a “A change is going to come.” This song included rhythmic melodies and soulful sounding lyrics, but this song contained and obviously deeper undertone of race relations in America. It sounds as a description of Cooke’s life up until this time and how he believes with the tide of civil rights activist a change was evidently going to eventually come. In this song Cooke chooses his lyrics in an ambiguous way to leave it to interpretation. These questions of the lyrical choice center on the American identity and who Cooke was referring to.
The concept of longing and love is presented in different ways by Rita Dove and Anna Swir in their poems. In “I’ll open the Window,” Anna Swir focuses on the opportunities that the future will bring upon ending a long, tiresome relationship. She employs poetic devices like personification, imagery, onomatopoeia, with a somber mood and reflection on her past relationship. On the contrary, “Flirtation” by Rita Dove conveys a feeling of hope and the joy of starting a new relationship through similes, metaphors, personification, and couplets. Both poems explore the idea of renewed hope that relationships bring either by starting a new one or ending an old one, while employing different stanza length, and creating different moods in the minds of the reader.
My favorite two songs are by, "Twenty-One Pilots - The Judge", and "Razihel - Canvas". The reason I like both of these songs is because they have a sort of calm feeling when you 're listening to them and the rhythm they have made you want to listen to both of them more. Although I have a liking to both of them, they 're also different too. Some ways they 're different are the genres. Twenty-One Pilots is alternative hip hop, while Razihel is an electronic music producer; the genre of the song "Canvas" is Nu Disco.
E SONG “I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU”, AS SUNG BY DOLLY PARTON AND WHITNEY HOUSTON The song “I Will Always Love You” is one of the most iconic songs of the 21st Century. This song has been widely covered by professional artists and cover singers until today. However, two of the most iconic renditions have to be from Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston. If I were to compare these two renditions, I would prefer Whitney Houston’s version of the song.
Christina Rossetti The sister of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Christina Rossetti’s work was influenced by the doctrines of this artistic movement. Her poetry is simple in rhyme scheme and choice of words, conveying the meaning of her poems to the reader with much clarity. The aforementioned characteristics of her poem do not take away from the vibrancy of her descriptions, as she used symbolism to help her paint vivid images in the minds of her audience. Adding to that, she was a devout Christian, and so her poems take on a highly religious, spiritual, and emotional theme, removed from material wealth and earthly possessions.
Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.
The theme of the song “Hey Brother” by Avicii talks about the men and woman in the armed forces and their bond to protect each other. The Lyrics on Google Play state “if the sky comes falling down for you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do”(Avicii 3-4). This Proves there is nothing the soldiers wouldn’t do to help and save their colleges. The song states “hey brother, do you still believe in one another?”(avicii 5) this states the question of the trust between the soldiers.
“I Will Always Love You”, as Sang By Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston “If I should stay, I would only be in your way…” Anyone today could probably finish the rest of this song after hearing these lyrics. “I Will Always Love You” is one of the most iconic songs of the 21 Century. This song is widely covered by professional artists and cover singers up to today. When two identical lyrics are sung by two different singers, these are not identical lyrics anymore.
The song that I am going to analyze is “Control” by Halsey. The song is titled control because, the singer mentioned that she has bipolar disorder, and she feels the constant confusion and frustration of who is actually controlling her state of mind. In the song many things symbolize her state of mind, and how she sees it, which would be like a “deadly disease”. The important symbol that is used in this song is “I’m bigger than my body, I’m colder than this home”, meaning that she see’s herself as something that is better than what her body represents or shows, while the other part symbolizes how her other persona can be mean or cold to people. Simply maybe because sometimes she would feel confident, standing up to herself at times, but also when the other persona takes control, she becomes cold, filled with anxiety or maybe even depression and frustration.
The song that I chose was “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. It was released in 2004, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It also hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100. Natasha Bedingfield has another popular song “Pocketful of Sunshine” and was really only popular in 2004-2006. You can find her songs on multiple 00’s playlists.
Introduction Roger’s and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is arguably one of the most well known films that many can admit to watching at least once in their lifetime. People all around the world have found this musical inspiring, as it documents growth and hope amidst the horrors of World War II. This incredibly well written film is based on the story of the Von Trapp family who escaped Austria when the Nazis invaded it during the war. Part of what made this movie so interesting on so many different accounts was the music that accompanied the vivid and exciting scenes. Without music, many could agree that our world would be a sad, quiet, dull and depressing place.
