Chris Watts and Scott Perterson both took the nation by storm. Both men were accused of killing their pregnant wives, and both cases were incredibly public. Chris Watts was accused of murdering his wife Shannan and his two kids Bella and Celetese in Frederick Colorado. Scott Perterson was accused of murdering his pregnant wife Laci in Modesto California. While both cases have their own differences, one detail about these men turned them into suspects very quickly. Scott and Chris both displayed cold, uncaring, and suspicious behavior throughout the investigations, and neither of them could seem to form a logical story about details of what happened. Laci Peterson was reported missing on December 24, 2004 by her stepfather, from her home in Modesto California. Her husband , Scott Peterson was suspicious from the beginning in the eyes of the public. Not only did he seem nonchalant and uncaring about his wife’s disappearance, but he refused to publicly ask people to help search for his missing wife. This gave him a horrible reputation in the media and brought light to his strange behavior throughout the case. His lack of cooperation with the police didn’t help , in fact Scott refused to take a polygraph, and according to police seemed uninterested in the investigation. This put him on their radar almost immediately and was constantly brought up by the media. Initially Scott’s in-laws defended him to the public, but during a vigil held for Laci they noticed that he was on his phone and seemed completely unemotional about the whole ordeal. Their disappearance not only devastated the community, but the entire nation. Unlike Scott Peterson, Chris Watts seemed like a concerned father in the eyes of the public at first. He agreed to TV appearances and begged for the safe return of his wife and kids. Police and investigators were the first to notice his strange behavior. When his wife was first reported missing, Watts stated that he was on his way home and didn’t give police his consent to search the home until he returned. This behavior was odd considering that Shannan was pregnant and reportedly ill that day. Chris not wanting them inside the home alone made it seem like he was nervous about them potentially discovering something, and his calm demeanor raises a red flag. Once he returned to his home and greeted police, instead of calling out for Shannan or the kids inside the house, he first opened the garage and thoroughly checked his car. This initial reaction from Chris showed exactly where his priorities lied, instead of looking for his family he decided to make sure there is no residual evidence inside of the car.
