In both of these articles by Christine Dell’Amore and Matt Miller, they discuss how these top predators impact the island, why they are they important, and should humans interfere? On the island of Isle Royale, there is a variety of animals that mostly just consume vegetation; therefore, they need wolves to balance out the food chain. But, the island is only accessible during the winter when stable ice bridges are created. Unfortunately, the ice bridges have not been forming due to warmer winters. Leaving a small count of wolves on the island with no new genes to mix in.

The Twinkie, an infamous treat among today’s health conscious era has been an American staple since its debut in 1930. Writer Bich Minh Nguyen praises this treat’s ability to evoke nostalgia in its consumers throughout her essay Goodbye to My Twinkie Days. This Golden delicacy simple as it may be to most holds a special place in her heart. When she learned that Hostess who is well-known for mass-producing Twinkies was going out of business she went out and grabbed a box for old time sake. The significance of this lies in her childhood, due to her being the child of Vietnamese immigrants she viewed Twinkies as a “Ticket to assimilation” (Nguyen 172).
Throughout the seventeenth century, conflict between Europeans and Native Americans was rampant and constant. As more and more Europeans migrated to America, violence became increasingly consistent. This seemingly institutionalized pattern of conflict begs a question: Was conflict between Europeans and Native Americans inevitable? Kevin Kenny and Cynthia J. Van Zandt take opposing sides on the issue. Kevin Kenny asserts that William Penn’s vision for cordial relations with local Native Americans was destined for failure due to European colonists’ demands for privately owned land.

The essay Be Specific by Natalie Goldberg was an essay thats main point to me was respect. Respect is something that every individual deserves. A synopsis of what respect means to me all leads back to the golden rule, treat others as you want to be treated. The example that Natalie used that was the most realistic to me was when she said "Hey, girl, get in line.". Many people in today 's world do not take the time to use names it is always hey you, dude, bro, girl, and so the list goes on; as a result our generation is known for being disrespectful in regards to previous years.
“Ahh that felt good”, I thought to myself after I helped a little kid find his mother because he was lost. Helpful is when you help someone do something that they cannot do on their own. In my two stories, I picked Connie and Arn both show that they are helpful in their own way, but Arn is the most helpful. One reason why Arn is considered helpful is because he said, “This guy Mek, he decided to live because of what I say, now I know it’s my job to keep him living. ”(McCormick page 58).

“One of my earliest memories involves sitting on my dad’s lap in his studio in the garage of our house and watching him draw. I remember thinking: ‘I want to do that, too,’ and I pretty much decided then and there at age 2½ or 3 that I was an artist just like Dad.” (http://www.art21.org/artists/kara-walker) Her father accepted a position at Georgia State University forcing her to move to move to Georgia when she was 13. There, she received her BFA from the Atlanta College of Art in 1991 and went to Rhode Island to receive her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1994.
She decided to spend her entire day drawing and painting as opposed to finding a real job and providing for her children. “Mom devoted herself to her art. She spent all day working on oil paintings, watercolors, charcoal drawings, pen and ink sketches, clay and wire sculptures, silk screens, and wood blocks. She didn 't have any particular style; some of her paintings were what she called primitive, some were impressionistic and abstract, some were realistic. "I don 't want to be pigeonholed," she liked to say.”
One reason I feel Chang-Rae Lee starts his essay out in the middle of the events is to create a hook and a reason to continue reading. It makes me curious to find out what chain of events leads to his mother being on an electronic pump. It also gives me a way to connect visually when he says, “From anywhere in the house, you could hear the sound of the wheels clicking out a steady time over the grout lines…”. That makes me think of a mini shopping car that my nephew loves to push along the tile floor in my mother’s house. I can hear the wheels along the grout lines just as he describes in his story.
The start of Karen Finley’s life began in the year of 1956 in Evanston, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. She grew up in an eccentric household where the “people in my family all married different people with different nationalities.” She began performing while in high school and even at a young age challenged those around her with provocative art. Finley describes her young self as someone
