A Christmas Carol is a novella and film by Charles Dickens. It narrates a fictional story of a man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future in order to convince him to change his poor outlook on life and his greed. The themes of A Christmas Carol overlap with Gospel teachings, such as the dangers of greed and how the poor should be treated with generosity. The theme of greed is represented in A Christmas Carol through the main character, Scrooge.

Scrooge is again really quick on the uptake and ask his front man ghost wether Tiny Tim will live. But the ghost rubes Scrooge nose in all of this just a little more, and then they float away to a mining field.
First, the ghost of Christmas Past visits him. They go to see his past. They went to see his young self. He was a lonely boy, neglected by his friends.
In A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens the passage that appears as a necessary part of the novel in order to understand the theme includes details that also contribute to the better understanding of the character. This passage acted as a description of Scrooge, how he presented himself, and the way people saw him. In the novel Dickens uses metaphors and alliteration to help the reader understand the Scrooge’s transformation throughout the novel. Dickens writes, “No warmth could warm, nor wintry weather chill him” when reading that, a reader thinks of Scrooge being in or around the warmest weather and still not able to warm himself, they may also picture him in the coldest weather and not freezing to death.
In a alarming voice, The ghost announces himself as the Ghost of Christmas named Present. He tells Scrooge that he has more than 1800 brother. The ghost tells Scrooge to fell his robe. Upon doing this, the ghost and the room disappears instantly and Scrooge finds himself alongside the spirit in the midst of the bustling city on Christmas morning. He happily take pleasure in the amazing sights and smells roaming through the shop doors.
When the Ghost of Christmas Past visits him, he is worried and very confused. Ebenezer Scrooge thinks that the entire thing is a joke. “There’s more gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are.” His actions illustrate how simple his life was, by catching him completely off guard, and showing that all of his joy is gone. He becomes terribly frightened by reliving his past.

He was cold and distant to everyone he met and was not exactly nice to people. The Ghost of Christmas Past shows readers, and reminds Scrooge, why he turned into the cold person he had become. It was evident he was not from the wealthiest of families and he was neglected by his friends and family year after year even at Christmas. During one of the scenes the ghost says to him, “The school is not quite deserted… A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still.”

The first scene the old man is taken to is his school. During Christmastime, Scrooge was left alone at school without any family to come home to because his father held a grudge against him. After watching how his younger self saw the character in his book “come to life,” Scrooge states, “There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should have given him something.” Soon after, Scrooge sees his sister, Fan come to greet him.
He was even shone when his father came to pick him up and in the movie his father is a stern old and cruel man.
