Where the competition is against fellow Ph.D. members, engineering, and an outlook of thinking on your feet, in which the wrong move may cost you your life. With eventually pursuing aerospace engineering, once serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Test Pilot, as it sparked his interest in the field of airborne activities, his application to the very selective Canadian Space Agency was coming. Once transferred over to NASA, in Houston Texas, where he would face the demands of the astronaut technicality and develop his skills as an individual who is at the pinnacle of learning to critically think in the most demanding of environments in the vacuum of space. Hadfield shows the relevance between his group's triumphs with his self-fulfillment, it shows the correlation between an environment of individuals who pursue the pinnacle of their fields and the success of that group in their completion of goals, which is applied to fluid work environments on every front. However, Hadfield also stresses throughout all sections of the book the root connection of proper preparation and the effect that it had on all and various areas of his life. Significant contributions not just through his success of becoming a proper astronaut, but through his growth as a person and personal mindset. Proper preparation has been the common factor in growing as an individual, which is one of the key driving factors to achieving his goals and overcoming hurdles across his career.
