One of the worst recorded cases of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is the case of Aaron Hernandez. Aaron Hernandez was a former NFL player who played football professionally for three years and collegiately for three years. He displayed many symptoms of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy before his death. He had murdered three people and was serving a life sentence for one of the murders. The murders and suicide are prime examples of the symptoms of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. After his autopsy, it was reported as the worst case of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy of anyone under the age of 46. (Kilgore, 2017) Hernandez was only 27. The official diagnosis of the disease was stage three Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. (Kilgore, 2017) One of the most intriguing factors in this case is, Hernandez only had one reported concussion in his playing time. I believe I have a high chance of developing the disease later in life. Some of the symptoms have already occurred such as mood swings, and aggression at times. This combined with a history of playing football for eight years leaves a serious concern for me. I would not be surprised at all if I was diagnosed with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy later in my life as all signs point towards the possibility. I have not been identified to be carrying the Apolipoprotein E gene, but this is because I’ve never been genetically mapped for this gene.
