The Ancient Greeks were affected in many ways by the things around and in the country called Greece. The geography of the land has had a great influence on Greece and the inhabitants. Throughout the history of Greece, there came more effects to the people who lived there. Some of these effects on the Ancient Greek civilization were positive and some were negative. Most of these effects were beneficial to the Greeks.
Athens established what is generally considered the first democracy in the fifth century BC. It took over three hundred years for it to evolve from a monarchy. The Athenians were far ahead of other countries in their structure of government. The revisions of laws, representative justice, and citizen-based law making impacted Athens’ movement from a monarchy to a democracy, influencing the United States’ government today. The Athenian Code of Laws was an important step in the protection of the rights of the individual.
The ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome were two of the most influential to Western government and culture. Due to political conflict in each, they both developed their own forms of government that changed the way politics was viewed. These newly created methods, democracy and representative republic, consisted of the revolutionary idea of political involvement of the common people. Each form of government had huge impacts on the development of future Western nations, though these nations are more closely based on the principles and organization of the Roman republic.
Many of the ancient lands we learn about in school are situated in river valleys teeming with silt that’s just waiting for stuff to be grown in it. This doesn’t make things easy for them, exactly, but, at the very least, that part of their life is taken care of. They can get both water and food from these river valleys they call home, as well as wealth from trading their crops. This was the case for both Mesopotamia and Egypt. Greece is a land covered by mountains with nothing much else to it yet one of the greatest civilizations ever to exist on this planet. Greece is part of Europe but is made up of more than 6,000 islands as well as a peninsula. Ancient Greeks live over 2500 years ago and considering their geography it is remarkable that they got to the greatness that they did get to. But they could have been even greater if the geography Greece had cooperated with the ancient Greek cities and citizens in the areas of their economy, their social/cultural ways, and their political beliefs.

Democracy in Ancient Greece was very significant and impacted Greek lives. Before 500 BC, Greeks were ruled by small groups that limited citizens' power and decision making. The democratic ideas were welcoming and equal for citizens. These democratic ideas inspired many authors, philosophers and others to write about democracy.
The period between 500 B.C.E to 338 B.C.E is referred to as “Classical Greece” due to the many achievements taken place, as well as the blossoming democracy in Athens, under the leadership of Pericles. One of the major confrontations during this period was between the Greek states and the Persian Empire. By the beginning of the 5th century BCE, Persia conquered Ionia, Thrace, and Macedonia while under the rule of Darius, and continued to expand his empire westward into mainland Europe.
The city-state of Athens, in particular, developed a form of direct democracy that emphasized civic participation and equal rights for citizens. This democratic ethos laid the groundwork for subsequent democratic systems throughout history. The United States, for instance, drew inspiration from ancient Greek democratic ideals when drafting its Constitution. However one can contrast these two societies by observing and valuing the art of ancient Greece. One can differentiate ancient Greek culture and modern Western culture by analyzing the treatment of religious figures, attitude towards emotion, and reaction towards nudity in each society. Greece and Rome, two ancient societies, both influenced many aspects of modern life. Their advancements were utilized in many later cultures. They influenced almost every part of today’s world, such as government, language, and architecture, as well as making scientific advancements. Also, the successes of these two civilizations lead to many countries modeling most of their public facilities and systems after the ones found in Greece and Rome. Arts such as visual art, literature, music, and dance each were influenced by, and had their own influence on, the development of government and politics in Ancient Greece.
Greek culture and mythology has had a very large impact on today's modern society. Thanks to Greek cultures we have learned many new ways to do things. It has influenced many things such as, architecture, art, and writings. Topics like Greek mythology should be introduced because learning about them can teach people of their affect on our society. Many people believe that things like Greek mythology and culture should not be introduced to our generation, because they believe that since the material is so old it's no longer important.
There are many different countries in our world and each of them has its own and unique culture. However, there is hardly a state in the world, which has as rich history as Greece has. The thing is, that Ancient Greece is known to be the place where modern European civilization with its values was born. Philosophers of this state created the majority of notions in this science while poets and playwrights of Ancient Greece managed to create the basis for classical literature. There is no use denying the fact that all these achievements became possible due to unite history of this very state.
