Greek culture and mythology has had a very large impact on today's modern society. Thanks to Greek cultures we have learned many new ways to do things. It has influenced many things such as, architecture, art, and writings. Topics like Greek mythology should be introduced because learning about them can teach people of their affect on our society. Many people believe that things like Greek mythology and culture should not be introduced to our generation, because they believe that since the material is so old it's no longer important. When people look at architecture of certain buildings, no one really thinks about its past and where the ideas came from. Architectural structures such as domed roofs and Triangular roofs are both origins from Roman and Greek cultur. In Washington DC, people find a lot of amazingly beautiful buildings held up by white tubes called columns. Columns like those where used to hold up the temple Parthenon back in 438 BC. According to Wikipedia, “It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered the zenith of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art.” Another important thing that Ancient GReek culture has influenced on today's modern society, is art. Greek mythology and stories often shared important lessons for example the story of Arachne taught not to be too proud of yourself and the story of King Midas that taught people not to be greedy. If people of the modern era learned and understood Greek mythologies and stories, then not only would they be learning an important piece of the past, but they will begin to understand more of today's literature. Greek literature also had a large impact on shaping today's society because there are many modern day stories that have origins from greek literature. Books such as Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson, or even the Shakespeare poems contain a lot of hidden meaning that could only be understood by those who know Greek mythology. Knowing Greek mythology is also important to understand because many stories that have greek origins have very strong meanings and lessons that are important to know. An example of this is Homer's, The Odyssey. The story about sirens attempting to lure in Odysseus so they could kill him. This story's lesson is that pretty faces sometimes have evil intentions. I believe that Greek stories like this should be read and understood by everyone because it would give young readers important life
