One of the most ancient and best-known city-states o the world is Athens. During the Golden Age of Athens lies the beautiful and legendary legacy of Greek culture during the Classical period of Greece. In the Athenian empire it endured chaos and destruction for many years, but it thrived with brilliant philosophers, leaders and especially architects and engineers. Greek’s visual arts like the buildings and art brought importance and recognition to Athens because it was filled with the most visually perfect designs that influence many cultures. Furthermore, it was used around the world especially in the U.S. like the detail in the columns of the U.S. Capitol Building. Its size and architecture are of the most famous feat of engineering ever created that is “still widely known today . . . as the biggest construction projects of the ancient world” (Anonemuss 51-52). If it was nor for the Golden Age if Athens, the visual art of the Parthenon would be different and probably would not be such a tourist prone place after all. The Classical period of Greek were essential in balance and symmetry in every design of the arts. The Parthenon was an ideal design and perfection in symmetry and balance because it conveyed the power and status of the Athenian empire.
