In my opinion, I believe that Athens had the most influence on the modern-day U.S.A. The first area in which they have affected us is in their government style. Another area in which they have influenced us is with their policy and ideas on education. The last area they have influenced us is some of their cultural values. Throughout this paper I hope to explain to you how Athens has influenced the Modern day United States of America. The first way that they have influenced the United States of America is with their government style. They had a direct democracy which was a form of government where people elected leaders. Although there are multiple differences between ares and there's they are actually extremely similar. Theirs required the entire male population to attend. Women were not allowed to attend government events, which was how our government also worked until 1920 when women were granted the right to vote. Often times Athenian men would meet up somewhere to discuss politics and their favorite or least favorite political leaders. Much like in the U.S when we have political arguments all the time with other people and we discuss how we think that the country should be run, and who we think should be president, and questioning other people's points of views. Another one of their cultural values is the fine arts such as singing, dancing, painting, making music, or other forms of art. All of these items are enjoyed by many in our society. One way that you can see this displayed is by looking around. There are dance studios all over the place, schools have performing arts in which people can sing, and paintings and other arts and crafts are displayed on walls. The cultural values of Athens have influenced the U.S greatly and we can see them in our everyday
