The arts reflect the society that creates them, this was very true with the ancient Greeks through their temples, sculptures, and pottery. Ancient Greek art emphasized the importance and accomplishments of human beings. An example of ancient Greek architecture is the Parthenon which is a marvel of design, featuring massive columns contrasting with subtle details (Doc:7). Greek architecture influenced many buildings that our World has today. In ancient Greece art was expressed many ways but one of them by sculptures of people, such as Myron’s famous sculpture of the Discus Thrower.
The people during the Classical Era of Greek worshipped God and godlike appearance was the main standard in their art. Statues became more natural and their posture, bodily movement were less stiff. They focused more on Olympics sports since ability to play sport became more important to the Greeks. They believed it was a way to become closer to their gods. Rome and Greece are the main cultures that achieved major goals while developing. Throughout history, the Roman Empire, as well as Greece, was able to develop many cultural ideas that influenced today’s way of thinking. Among all of those ideas, the ones of science, government, mathematics, literature, and others, are the baseline of cultural diversity.
Areté was important to the Greek culture because it allowed them to be all they can be from fighting in battle, to making statues, and to architecture. Areté was shown through the arts by sculptures, pottery, and temples. Many pieces of art were even made for public display so the artists would put a marvelous amount of pride in it for the citizens. The ancient Greeks put lots of areté into architecture like the Parthenon, which is considered the finest example of Greek architecture. The author Homer is a great example of what virtue looks like in his poems the Iliad and the Odyssey, which tell the story of the Trojan War and the Greek hero Odysseus journey after the fall of Troy.

I assert the most influential ideas the Greeks and Romans had are displayed in our government, art, and architecture. Their ideas have inspired over 25 centuries, growing and changing over time, and still remain in our modern civilization.
