The typical BC-25 classroom is a chaotic environment full of confusion, disruption and discord. It houses the many clashing minds and personalities from the youthful and ambitious to the melancholic and lazy. All these minds which would not get along at all with each other are converging for the same purpose of gaining the higher education needed to obtain their respective goals in life. This mix obviously spells chaos, but it also brings forth the future leaders, innovators and pioneers of our future. All it requires is a catalyst for order and discipline to guide the students to through the right path. That will be the teacher’s job. Giving a deeper understanding of diversity and other perspectives are one of the huge effects that a democratic classroom possesses. Providing opportunities for students to share their thoughts to make sure that the differences among the students has been clear and shared. “A democratic classroom is one of the best approaches” according to the Southern Poverty Law Center (Wandrei, 2014).
It motivates students to work harder because of the attention being given to them. When you are being encouraged to do or perform something without force and it is what you enjoy what you are doing then you’ll definitely be doing it. You also do this to for good grades because of how the environment in your class is. It is open and welcoming that gives the students a fresh feel of being in class without being nervous. Not thinking about other stuffs that might distract you. Not being afraid or shy to participate in class discussion since the teacher accepts answers and openly corrects mistakes without anger or aggression. The teacher is open to explain and is approachable to students for questions. The teacher is also open to listen when the student is questioning his or her idea. All these happening, the students are still able to obey and follow the class rules with appropriate punishments if one breaks it. It is stated that there are actually three common classroom disciplining styles (M. Charles, p. 76). The first is the previously stated Democratic style, and the other two are the hostile approach which relies mostly on demanding respect, and the passive approach which leaves the students to choose for themselves most of the time. These two approaches are very contradicting to each other and have different effects on the classroom.
The hostile approach is a very aggressive approach and usually inspires fear into the students. It utilizes the teacher’s authority over his students to the maximum and leaves little room for argument. “Hostile teachers view students as adversaries, they feel if they are to maintain order and teach properly, they must keep the upperhand…”(Charles, p.36).Teachers who use this method of disciplining are usually described to be very strict or scary and usually have very silent and passive students during
