Internet’s destruction of humanity In the essay “Isolated by the Internet”, Clifford Stoll discuss a major issue that people have been facing in the past few years. He discusses how internet usage seems to help us build connections and build up our social network. However, there is no factual evidence proving that the Internet helps us build stronger bonds between people our social lives. In fact, the frequent usage of the Internet has caused our modern society to be more isolated from each other. Internet usage leads us to have low self-esteem and depression whenever we are not interacting with anyone. It is because we feel lonely as we do not have someone to chat and contact with constantly. When she first received her first smart phone during eighth grade she was really excited about it. She started to explore around the internet, creating her own Facebook account. However, things started to get out of control with frequent Internet surfing and texting. She started to get addicted to the Internet world. Whenever she got home she would stare at her screen nonstop. When I asked her what she was doing on her screen, she replied that she was talking to her friends that she met on some random social network. I continued questioning her by asking if she knew what kind of people they are, what do they do and how old they are. She could not gave me an exact answer. It almost seemed like she did not really know their backgrounds very well, considering my sister called them friends. Moreover, due to her internet addiction she not only started to build weak ties with the friends on the internet, but she also started to abandon her deep ties and her interests in her life. Since she was so addicted to Internet surfing, she stopped interacting with her friends in school and other people that she used to meet up with every day. She wouldn’t even talk to her family. Moreover, she stopped daily drawing and painting rountine. It is because she was too focused on her phone and laptop and put her efforts and mind in thinking that virtual reality world is where she belongs. In the end, she is currently suffering from several issues that caused her to not be the same person like before. She started to feel lonely and left out not only because she could not constantly use Internet access. In addition, her friends in school stopped asking her out because they would assume that May is too busy with her own social life. May now appreciates and reflect on her own mistakes for getting to attached towards Internet usage. She tries to make up for her friends and tends to create
