Drugs can often go by differen't names. The chemical name refers to the chemical structure, and is agreed on by IUPAC. These names are not modified by the company producing the drug. Trade names however are whatever the company wants to call their drugs, where as generic name is the name of the drug in the United States. An example would be Plavix. Plavix itself is the trade name given by the company who produced it, but clopidogrel is the generic name. In the US, any drug called clopidogrel is considered to have the same active ingredients. However, if you went to Europe, you may not find either, and would need to look for the chemical name (+)-(S)-methyl 2-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-(6,7-dihydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridin-5(4H)-yl)acetate.
