Although we do not know for certain what the Celts looked like, there are clues to be found. Strabo, the Greek geographer wrote about the appearance of the Celts “They wear gold jewellery, torcs on their necks and bracelets on their arms and wrists, while people of high rank wear dyed garments ornamented with gold.” (V&A, 2017) Clues can also be found on Roman statues. One particular statue depicts a Celtic woman. She appears to be wearing a sleeveless tunic over a long dress with a simple shift beneath. “A shawl or cloak is worn fastened at the shoulder.
