I chose to create a coat of arms for Walter Lee Younger in Lorraine Hansberry’s play, A Raisin in the Sun. He is such an interesting character because of how he grows throughout the course of the play. Hansberry wants the reader to grow frustrated with his opinionated beliefs at the beginning, but then wants the audience to realize that he is a caring father for Travis. The changes to Walter’s personality over the course of the play are illustrated in the coat of arms, through symbols, including: an American flag, a sword, a declining graph, an iron beam, and a family holding a house.
My windsock, represent Scout Finch, with the symbol overalls. I chose Scout because she 's the main character and had a big impact on the book. I choose overall for her symbols because she continues to wear them as fighting against people trying to attempt her to be a lady. She 's not the average girl who dresses up and acts nice. As the title of the novel suggests, the color yellow is one of the largest and most important symbols in A Yellow Raft in Blue Water. The color’s effects can best be seen in Rayona with the yellow raft at Bearpaw Lake, but can also be seen in Christine and Ida’s stories. There has been a great controversy over whether or not schools and teams keep their Mascots that portray images of Native Americans. Articles in newspapers, websites, and magazines discussing the topic are provided to the public. There is even a press release from the supreme court where they have addressed such issue. Schools, teams, and Native Americans have viewed these documents and taken their own stand on the issue. I am going to decide whether or not cities/teams should get rid of their Native American mascots/nicknames.
[ As I sit in the middle of Bragg 's Confederate sanctuary, I wonder whose interpretation of these images is more accurate. Bragg reveres those gray-clad men of honor, courage, and love of country--men he would claim fought to uphold the independence and rights of a sovereign people. I do not see that. I see men who hoped to sustain a society based on chattel slavery and an ideology of white supremacy, a society that held that some men were by right born "booted and spurred" to ride the saddles placed on the backs of Negroes by providence itself. Looking around the room I see images that degrade the memory of my ancestors.

As mentioned earlier, the color green is one of the most recognized colors symbolically. The color green symbolizes future, or the American dream, and is most associated with Gatsby himself. This is what Gatsby is pursuing throughout the novel until he tragically perishes, his dream never becoming a reality.
In the Eagle Poem, Joy Harjo uses repeated imagery of circles to explore how one’s search for identity and meaning continues throughout his or her life. She is explaining how a person must pray to find them self and he or she truly is. She explains this by starting the poem by saying how, “to pray you open your whole self, to sky, to earth, to sun, to moon… and know there is more.” Here, she is showing that to find who you are as a person, you must search high and low and continue searching through the circle of motion, which is just a symbol for life.
The human connection to birds is a fascinating thing that is often depicted in stories. Humans want to be free like birds and fly away from the troubles that are present in their life. Birds reflect the image of freedom in life, so it’s no wonder that the Bald Eagle is the emblem of the United States; a country built on the principles of freedom and equality. Two famous poets by the names of Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou used the image of the bird to describe how they felt in their own life. Even though Dunbar wrote in the Reconstruction Era and Angelou wrote around the time of the Civil Rights Movement, their ideas were almost identical.
Monuments of Confederacy The Confederate monuments should be a thing of the past and torn down. “The statues were built to honor the Confederacy and maintain the idea that whites are superior to other races. ”(Landrieu, 2) Statutes are not designed to simply remember our history, but the statues purpose is to honor and venerate the person or idea it represents. These statues honor the idea that slavery was ok.
What do colors mean? Colors represent different things, trigger different memories. Colors have a wide variety of meanings for different people. Colors spark different things for people. Some relate the color pink to a girl and blue to a boy, other people may relate blue to sadness.
