The 1952 movie High Noon is about a town marshal named Will Kane who arrested a man named Frank Miller. Miller wanted revenge so he returned to the town to try to kill Kane.
What genre of literature would you say teens are into the most? Turns out teens tend to turn to dystopian societies, now do you know why? Teens these days are just getting darker in all types of ways one of the ways they are getting darker is they are starting to enjoy darker genres of literature and movies. One of the ways to show you why they can relate to these stories is by talking about the movie The Giver based off the book by Lois Lowry directed by Phillip Noyce and the book Anthem written by Ayn Rand. Now teens these days like dystopian societies and one reason is because of how they can relate to them and for there darker nature.

Did you slay a dragon, find true love, or save a princess? Common details that recur within a genre such as these are labeled genre Conventions, which can be used to enhance a text’s appeal or advance a moral.
I used to think genre was a category or a label that defined a written piece. My understanding relied exclusively on the format. However, when I read “Navigating Genres”, by Kerry Dirk, I realized how limited my understanding was. In his essay, Dirk wants his audience to challenge the misconceptions of genres in writing. Dirk exposes the reader to see writing through the lenses of genre theory and to conceptualize the benefits of genres in our rhetoric.
The main genre’s that has been used in the text would be drama and fiction. The book Unfriendly Competition is fiction, however, the author, Jessica Burkhart related to some issues in the text when she was at school. Some of the issues the author faced at school were exaggerated in the text by adding more conflict and drama into the situation. An example would be the gossip blog, teachers got involved and someone got expelled in the text, however, that never happened to the author. The text has been used in formal language to make accurate wording that is appropriate for the context which makes it easy for the targeted audience to understand like ‘We slowed the horses to a trot, and I leaned back in the saddle.’

One story his mother often told was about watching a group of Jews being marched down the street on their way to the concentration camp in Dachau. An old man was struggling to keep up with the rest of the group. When a boy ran up to the man and offered him a piece of bread, the man fell to his knees, crying and kissing the boy’s ankles.
Gothic literature is a style of literature that takes place in the past, most of the time it has someone who dies and it has a creepy vibe/tone behind it . Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher,” is a good example of Gothic literature because it shows how a man goes to visit an old friend and see how his friend and his friends twin sister die. “The whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day. ”(13)
Southern Gothic The southern gothic a writing genre came from the evolution of the once mighty South. The authors of this genre depicted the world in a way where the older generation is in constant battle with the new generation. Two prominent figure in the genre is Flannery O Conner who writes from a White Southern perspective. While the other character Alice Walker speaks for the African-Amercian community.

Genres makes it easier for the audience, as the categorization of genres lets the audience pick what sort of movie they would like to watch. Genre theory is a break down of different types of films. It is a recipe that is put together to make it a whole. When you break down the type or category of your film, that will become a formula for your character types/conventions, settings, and visual imagery, which is called iconography (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014). When this is used, it will help the viewers to understand the prediction of the movie they are watching. A lot of genres falls alongside with sub-genres, which have a more defined formula.
