“On April 18, 1775 several hundred British regulars under orders from General Thomas Gage set out from Boston Massachusetts to capture weapons and ammunition being stockpiled by local colonists in the towns of Lexington and Concord” (Nix History.com). In addition to capturing munitions, the British soldiers were ordered to capture Samuel Adams and John Hancock who were wanted for high treason against the crown. Upon arriving at Lexington, the soldiers were met at the town center by numerous armed minutemen. It is not known who fired the first shot, but the colonists were in full retreat after a brief battle leaving left several dead behind. The British continued their journey on to the North Bridge outside Concord.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the very first fight of colonists against the British. The first shot of the battle was fired by the British according to the accounts of John Parker and Thomas Fessenden. As John Parke states, the first shot was fired by the British because they were colonists and they were not going to attack first unless they were fired upon first. John states that they fired at them and killed eight of their men. This account is reliable because it is an official testimony, he wouldn 't lie under oath.
In 1772,one more event occurred which cause trouble between the colonists and great Britain, Lieutenant William Duddington(the ship Gaspee) crew members will board the ship and expropriate(smuggling)packages. The shipowners will lose all there $$ and goods then hurt the merchants they have traded.
Bridgewater, Va. – The Treasury Department announced on Wednesday April 20th, abolitionist, and anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman is to replace the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. This is a mark in history because she will not only be the first African-American to appear on United States paper currency, but also the first woman in over a century. The original plan was to have a woman replace founding father Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill. But that plan was revoked according to Jacob Lew, the Treasury Secretary, when the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical portraying Hamilton’s life gained a lot of support, as reported by USA Today.
The gold coast is situated in South East Queensland 80km for the capital city of Brisbane which is located in the subtropical climate. This means that these regions are the warmest parts of the two temperate zones. The weather at the gold coast has 245 days of fine and sunny days nearly each year. However in the subtropical region it does tend to get humid and are often followed by tropical storms. The average rainfall for the Gold coast is 1400 millimeters of rainfall each year.
Home to a large Pleistocene fossil site, Saltville, Virginia has revolutionized modern archeology. The locality is especially significant because of unique interactions that took place between animals and humans 15,000 years ago. There has been recent evidence uncovered that Paleo-humans and the mammals in the surrounding Appalachian region interacted and the humans relied on the animals for survival. The deep history preserved in the land of Saltville reveals a past ecosystem that drew megafauna to its locality. The region, rich with life, is the second oldest known Pre-Clovis site in the Americas, marking its significance in history and archeology.
Pilgrims landed in Jamestown in 1607 with aspirations to discover new land as well as to teach their religious beliefs. Jamestown was also viewed as major profit enterprise for food and material which could be sent back to the motherland, Britain. Upon their arrival, they discovered the land had already been occupied by Native Americans, which would allow for trade between the two settlements: Jamestown and Powhatan Confederacy. Tobacco also helped the growing of Jamestown not only in trade but in export which helped the prosperity of the new colony.
There are times in history that are significant for more than one reason and stand out because of the spark they ignite setting off a chain of other events. Of course to ignite something means the conditions are right to be combustible. The sinking of the U.S.S Maine has come to be one of those events which impacted not only the history of the United States but the world. The U.S.S. Maine, its voyage and ultimate annihilation led to the Spanish-American War.
What Made it Hard to Settle Charles Town? Charles Town was a major development at the time owned by the mighty British Empire. They wanted to establish a settlement here because of the resources it had to offer. But, there were a number of problems that came with settling Charles Town.
The city of Lakeville consists of over 36 square miles of land and 1.7 square miles of water. Lakeville’s Park and Recreation Department maintains a total of 62 properties, mainly consisting of parks, athletic fields, trails, and beaches. Tennessee became a state June 1, 1796, and now consists of 95 counties. Counties are what makes up a state and breaks down different subdivisions, without these counties states would have no direction and be one enormous blob.
Clifton Davis participated in a school trip to the Glen Echo Park, only to find out his money was wasted due to the fact that the park would not let him in because of his skin color. The Glen Echo Park is unjustified, as its policy to exclude all negro’s is unfair and it clearly speaks against the Declaration of Independence. “All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” (Declaration of Independence) Glen Echo’s policy clearly violates the Declaration of Independence.
Nova Scotia remained neutral throughout the entire duration of the American Revolution and there is an array of reasons why. It would not be just, to claim one reason more over the other, nor would it be appropriate to say that one [reason] stands solely alone for the neutrality in and of Nova Scotia’s stance. Many interwoven reasons influenced and ultimately justified Nova Scotia in and during the American Revolution. However one reason that stands out most is security and lack of security that siding with the American resistance would bring.
