In the Great Depression era novel The Grapes of Wrath John Steinbeck deploys descriptive language to convey Man’s perseverance. For example in chapter 3 Steinbeck describes Man’s perseverance by using a turtle and it struggles to represent the Joad family’s struggles. A child’s family environment, background and health can all have an impact on a child’s development because if the child is uncomfortable or unhappy then they are not developing in a healthy way. A child needs to feel loved and be shown affection to help them feel safe and secure in their environment in order to develop in a positive way. Children and young people’s development will either be boosted or restricted by personal factors, as well as external ones. External factors have a marked effect on a child’s development from the very beginning but they can also affect how involved a child is with school and group activities.

METHODOLOGY The empirical analysis follows two steps. In the first step, we analyse the association between formal childcare and child cognitive outcomes, allowing the effect of formal childcare to be different for children from different family backgrounds. We control for a large number of control variables (regarding the child, the mother, the father, the household). 3.2.2 – Creating a sense of mission Research indicates that companies which have been consistently successful over a period of time have a leadership which is bound with the mission. Transcendental leadership is one which engages the followers in a relationship of personal influence. Transcendental leadership is all about exerting a deep influence and offering their followers not just rewards and punishments but professional development opportunities and also provides the means to satisfy the inner need to do something which is worthwhile. In order to develop transcendental leadership, it is said that there must be a sense of transcendence (an experience beyond the normal) based on a common mission.
Social and physical environments in the home and the social environment in the classroom impact early childhood development. This paper discusses: the impact of the social environment in the home on early childhood development; the possible negative impact of the physical environment on a preschool child in a Guyanese home; and the impact of a positive social environment in the early childhood classroom. Early childhood development is“a set of concepts, principles, and facts that explain, describe and account for the processes involved in change from immature to mature status and functioning.” (Katz, 1996, p. 7) The physical environment refers to; the nature of the physical home surroundings including its cleanliness; the safety of the home and the security which the home offers.

This can directly affect the relationships and experiences we have with ourselves, clients, and our peers in social care practice. For this assignment, I will look at the importance of ‘the self’ and personal and professional development in social care.
