In chapter 7 the main topics that were discussed were thinking, language and intelligence. The aspect of cognition is defined as the mental activities involved in acquiring, retaining and using knowledge. Thinking involves be to manipulate internal, mental representation of information to be able to draw inferences and conclusions. With thinking there are two kinds of mental representation present which are, mental images and concepts. There are also types of concepts that are used with thinking.
Describe and evaluate two definitions of abnormality [16 marks] One definition of abnormality comes from statistical infrequency. We typically define what is seen as ‘normal’ by referring to statistical values. For example, from statistical evidence, we can be informed of things such as the average shoe size of 11-year olds, the average age of a first-time mother, and so on. As we can define what is ‘normal’ through statistics, we can also define what is abnormal. For instance, it is seen as abnormal for a first-time mother to be over the age of 40 or under the age of 20.

After reading this week’s chapters from our textbook, one interesting topic that was discussed in chapter five was classifying instructional objectives. When a teacher wants to design objectives, it is important that they use three domains and they are the cognitive domain, affective domain, and psychomotor domain. The cognitive domain involves mental operations from the lowest level of the simple recall of information to complex, high-level evaluative process (Carjuzaa & Kellough, 2017, pg. 136). The affective domain involves feelings, attitudes, and values and ranges from the lower levels of acquisition to the highest level of internalization and action (Carjuzaa & Kellough, 2017, pg. 136). The Biopsychosocial model (Suls & Rothman, 2004) is one of the earliest multi-dimensional models of the health field. This model demonstrates the interaction between biological and social factors in regard to disease analysis. It displays levels above and below a person arranged from global systems at the top and genetic systems at the bottom. In the Social and Behavioral Foundations of Public Health, Coreil (2010) describes how the biopsychosocial is more concerned with the biological systems within the human body and pays greater attention to this interplay. In the case study, Cockerham (2013) details how social conditions act as the ultimate causes of diabetes and diabetes related fatalities in the community of East Harlem.
The movie Inside Out is about 11-year-old Riley who lives in Minnesota with her Mom and Dad. What makes this film so unique is that the story is ultimately about Riley’s emotions, Sadness, Anger, Anxiety, Disgust, and of course, Joy. The audience experiences Riley’s life through the lens of Joy, the protagonist. Joy’s primary goal was to keep Riley and most of her memories happy, but when the family moved from their home in Minnesota to California, Riley’s emotions started acting differently, specifically Sadness. For example, Sadness touched a memory, and subsequently became tainted with sadness, which greatly troubled Joy.
In the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, a group of men living in a psychiatric ward are dealing with different types of disorders. The character that I chose to observe and analyze was Billy Bibbit. Billy is a young man who struggles to speak without stuttering and make his own decisions. He seeks approval from those around him and is always worried he will disappoint those around him. Although some people at this psychiatric ward are committed, Billy is a voluntary patient.
There is only one approach in psychology that studies thoughts, feelings and behaviour. The biological approach believes that the way we are is due to our genetics and physiology. They believe that the activity going on our nervous system’s is what affects the way we think, feel and behave (Sammons, 2009). The physiology in the biological approach looks into how the brain functions. The brain is a very complicated machine as such, the brain is what controls our every move, every feeling and every action.
Corinne Kamrar fMRI 204566178 Whether or not neuroimaging, more specifically functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), informs cognitive theories is investigated through two opposing views. Max Coltheart argues, cognitive neuroimaging lacks the ability to inform cognitive theory and therefore does not contribute to the study of cognition. In other words, cognitive theory informs neuroimaging and not the other way around, such that, neuroimaging informs cognitive theory. Contradicting Coltheart’s view on cognitive neuroimaging, Mara Mather, John Cacicppo, and Nancy Kanwisher agree that an abundance of knowledge can be obtained from fMRI’s and therefore influence cognitive theories.

As soon as he attended the lecture, his professor said "Mathematicians won the war. Mathematicians broke the Japanese codes and built the A-bomb.
Models are generalizations of processes, patterns and systems of human interactions and experience. Models can be seen and used in our everyday life. They make life easier in a way – they help us in understanding concepts that can be related to all the parts in our lives. The good thing with models is that they can provide a very clear explanation of a certain concept, because they leave out the things that might make the explanation more complex. This gives us general rules that are widely used.
