Cold And Cold States By George Loewenstein

291 Words2 Pages
In this chapter the author talks about two different states a human encounters with their emotions. The first is called a “hot” state, which is when a person may be angry and reacts poorly towards the situation they are facing. The other is called a “cold” state, which is when the person takes a “time out” and thinks about reacting rationally towards the situation. The author also talks about how psychologist George Loewenstein researched these states, and has found that by labeling certain situations as “hot” or “cold” can help how you react to them. It is normal to react to each situation differently, but some ways that we may react to things can affect us in the long run. One way to handle a “hot” situation is counting to ten or even one-hundred.
