1) Analyzing - Evaluate E.B. White's use of description by writing a response that answers the following: do you feel you are the audience of White's piece? In E.B. White’s story, “ Once More to the Lake” he wrote the story as though he’s personally telling you about his life experience about him growing up going to the lake in Maine and now returning as an adult with his son. He speaks about intimate moments he had at the lake when he was younger and as he gets older it feels as though nothing has changed, it's as though he went back in time to his childhood. He also explains, in great detail, every sense he is re-experiencing as an older man.

The girl, Lillian, was painting harsh messages on walls, leaving dead animals in the food hall, and messing with the trails.

Years ago, Devils Lake was surrounded in huge mountain ranges but through weathering and erosion has created the breathtaking bluffs and the large body of water there is today. One popular theory scientist have about Devils Lake is that years ago the Wisconsin River flowed through the gorge but the water became trapped between the glaciers. Over time the water trapped between the two glaciers became the well known lake.

I will never forget that encounter the intense sun, the endless horizon, the infinite shades of blue that dissolved any boundary between sky and trees. The views were like swimming into a kaleidoscope, deceptively plain "Lake Winaukee" sign on the outside, but a show of colors on the inside, waiting to shock and, mesmerize me. Those colors! Sails on the horizon covered the lake; streaks of sunlight illuminated them, the swaying wildlife creating a dance of rhythm. Beautiful, preserved life synchronizing every movement with the camp sight creating one living entity.

The fresh air smells like a mix of mucky water, and of hamburgers and hot dogs cooking on a grill outside. A calm breeze sweeps across the lake as soon as I step onto the dock. The view of Platte Lake is all around me when I jump on the rusty, old dock. Off to the side of the dock next to a tree sits an antique paddle boat. Old stickers cover the boat, but most have peeled off like paint chips off of an old fence.
