College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Student Athlete

Being an only child it has been my parents' goal to help me become a "well-rounded" individual. To accomplish this, they enrolled me in pre-school, plays, soccer, gymnastics, swimming, and piano. In Junior High I played on the volleyball team at school and on a club team. Being a team sport, it has taught me numerous life skills, from learning how to cope with difficult people, to being disciplined and following the rules. Now, I play on the varsity softball team and have been playing this particular sport since seventh grade. As a senior, and this being my fourth year on varsity, I can sincerely say that I have learned much more about the game and have become a decent outfielder. Early on, I ended up getting injured, which my parents were actually thankful for as it did get me over the fear of catching the ball. It hurt a little, but did not kill me. Currently, I am working on my hitting skills; for some reason I still have a sense of fear in that area.

Frankly, many would say that I am a die-hard school girl, and have always been one. After overcoming separation anxiety in kindergarten, I became a very zealous student. …show more content…

My parents just expected me to partake in it because of its many advantages such as improving cognitive skills, promoting better performance in school, as well as improved ability to handle stress. There have been many times when I wanted to give up because I had little time to practice, but continued because my parents and instructor saw the talent I possess. They continually pray for me to someday embrace this talent and become an ardent musician. In addition, I am in my fourth year of choir and absolutely adore my teacher. After three years of auditioning and working extremely hard, I finally made it into chorale. Chorale is the top choir at my school and I eager to learn all the new songs, as well as the various places and venues we will perform
